The article, “Toward A Sublime Paradigm”, is an adaptation and updated version of the previously dispatched article entitled, “Breaking The Silence Down South” which the author wrote in July 2005 and mailed on the 6th July 2005 to the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Malacanang Palace, Manila. The latter was written at the time when the Philippine political climate was experiencing turbulent storm shortly following the controversial National Election in 2004.

“Breaking The Silence Down South” was acknowledged with appreciation & gratitude by the Office of the President through a reply letter, dated 19th July 2005, sent to me from the Presidential Action Center (Ref. scanned copy uploaded as product category at page).

From the latter part of year 2004 to the present, noteworthy turn of events and developments have already taken place both in the domestic as well as global scene which necessitated a review, re-evaluation, revision and updating of the contents of the material previously sent to the Office of the Philippine President.

In the context of the perceived current situations, conditions, and circumstances in Philippine socio-economic-political-moral climate, “Toward A Sublime Paradigm” offers a fresh insight and message of hope for all the parties concerned.

Here now comes the full text of “Toward A Sublime Paradigm”:

When I was already beginning to see signs of recovery from ill-health in early 2004 following a two-year lingering rare illness, from then on I’ve been thinking of breaking my silence down south, by writing my thoughts to reach out and touch people’ lives for good.

As a concerned citizen in a far-flung area in southern Mindanao, I asked my lonely self, “How can I get off from my isolation and be able to participate in the National Dialogue on issues affecting even the least whose lifestyle finds a home of peace and quiet in distant place away from the busy and noisy centres of today’s polarized and messy world?”

Well, to me, the opportune time is now when this little voice from the south desires to be heard and his thoughts pondered, hoping that some supervening rays of light and grains of salt shall spread out to serve and guide the seemingly confused, virtually misguided, and helplessly lost.

I can’t help but ask some questions to start with:

Firstly, “How is our nation, the Philippines, which many observers and researchers regard as the only Christian nation in Southeast Asia?” Estimates are telling that around 80.9% of the populace are Roman Catholic Christians. Added to it within the duration of the recent 20th century were the cropping up and propagation of the different varieties of Christian religious denominations comprising some 11.6% or so, thereby, making Christianity the dominant religion in the country(2000 Census, OFM-TV).

Secondly, other than the leading statistics of converts to nominal Christianity, what remarkable impact in terms of substantial transformation in the social and moral life of the Filipino People in general have the more than 400 years now of christening this nation brought forth, that is, recounting from the very first time the pioneering friars and missionaries set foot on this archipelago along with the Spanish colonizers in the 16th century?

In 1990, the Honorable Philippine Senator Blas R. Ople observed, “Our Christian faith has not notably raised our ethical standards…neither has it wrought a more perfect social cohesion or a more responsive civic culture” (Manila Bulletin, Dec. 25, 1990, p.7, 11).

Aggravating the perennial evils plaguing the Philippine society like Graft & Corruption, Smuggling, Drug & Human Trafficking, all sorts of Counterfeiting, etc. are the recurring incidence of horrifying and heart-rending Political killings or massacre; imperialistic exploits and abuse of the Country’s Natural and Human Resources and the Economy; displacement of the indigenous industries and virtual crippling of local initiatives with the influx of monstrous & faceless Industrial Conglomerates; Extortion or kidnappings for ransom by Outlaws; you mention it; etc. etc.

What make things even more dramatic are the unrelenting demand to rip part of the country’s territorial integrity by secessionist movements; the deluding attempt toward convergence of some agitated unholy alliances of multi-sectorial and cross-social-cultural & religious groups with a vaguely defined platform and agenda; the stealthy lobbying of partisan power brokers; and, who knows of any covert maneuver by interest groups for their self-serving agenda, not to mention the opportunists that simply lurk in the dark. In all likelihood, all of the above boggle and stagger the unpretentious mind of the helpless and silent majority from the middle down to the lower social strata.

The above cited distressing phenomena, the subtle behavior of various socio-economic-religious-political configurations, and the creeping diverse underground movements here and there are in effect testing and measuring once again as ever the strength of the foundation, make-up, and efficiency of the “Democratic Experiment” derivatively based on foreign models and applied in this fledgling Philippine Republic.

Amidst this perplexity and perceivable uncertain scenario, however, I see good news and signs of hope in the lives of the “unsung heroes” in low profile at the sideline. These are the ones whom I believe have learned and internalized the significance, meaning, and sense of having genuine faith, ascertained hope, and unwavering trust in the Divine; of upholding the value of forbearance; of exercising the gift and power of forgiveness; and, of demonstrating the graceful ability to give allowances to those who earnestly humble themselves by confessing and admitting their shortcomings as well as functional lapses in rendering practical judgment.

As free moral beings, the latter genre of select, enlightened, and conscientious people from top echelon of the powers that be down to the rank and pile in society can always make amends to make up and do better, even within the sphere of influence by the heartless and stiff-necked lording-over principalities & powers of the worldly establishments.

In the final reckoning, everyone will be measured according to his deeds.  And, only The Omniscient knows every detail in the heart of every human being:  “The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?  I, the Lord, search the heart; I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.” (Jeremiah 17:9-10, NASB).

In the meantime, each person is allowed to go and do his way, but not without prescribed guidelines and wise counsel.  Master Jesus made it clear saying, “And I say to you, that every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render account for it in the Day of Judgment.  For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned” (Matthew 12:36-37, NASB).

Looking around here and abroad, let’s see what’s observable as happening.  Who can’t perceive that many people’s true love, genuine faith, and certainty of hope are fainting?  Who can’t hear the intermittent outrageous roar of bestiality as restive people try to devour and destroy one another?  Who can’t see that these and countless immoral lifestyle and wickedness are telling signs and trends indicative of the prophesied waning & eventual binding and throwing into the “bottomless pit” (Revelation 20:1-3)  of the deceiving power behind the misguided, lost, and “Fallen Babylon” of lawlessness and ungodliness? (Ephesians 6:12; 2 Timothy 3:1-9; Revelation 12:9-12, NASB).

As professing Christians, it behoves each of us to wake up and examine ourselves in earnest:  “Do I really deserve to be called a Christian?  Am I really living the Christian lifestyle in my thoughts, words, and deeds?”

The Savior & Lord Christ Jesus taught and commanded His believers, “…you love one another, even as I have loved you…” (John 13;34, NASB)

Now, “what for” is the Philippines standing out as the oldest and longest running Christian-dominated Nation in Southeast Asia?  Aren’t we, People of the Philippines, humbled to be regarded as such?

Truly, we can learn even from the experience of the wise king Solomon who prayed to God and was heard:  “Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, ‘I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.  If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:12-14, NASB)

Having cited the case of king Solomon, my personal prayer and hope is for the Philippines to have as her leader a truly anointed “Man of God” empowered with the Valour and Righteous Heart of king David of the united kingdom of ancient Israel (2 Samuel 5:1-10, NASB), and gifted with the Knowledge, Understanding, and Wisdom of his son and successor, king Solomon (1 King 3:5-13, NASB).

While the “darkest hour” (unprecedented “Great Tribulation”) precedes the “gleam of dawn of the New Day”, the breaking Good News is:  A GLORIOUSLY EMERGING EPOCH OF BLESSEDNESS is shaping up in the horizon.  Indeed, the leavening process has been progressing and advancing if only one cares to believe in the “Good News of Heaven’s Kingdom” first in order to be made able to see the realization already building up.

The BLESSED PROMISE of the God-Man and Savior Christ Jesus to come again for His faithful Ones stands as ever (John 14:1-3, NASB).  Then, with His Saints He’ll descend to reign in Righteousness, Justice, and Peace on earth.  No human being on earth knows the D-DAY and the hour, but His appearing is absolutely certain (Matthew 24:36-39, NASB).

During His public ministry on earth (ca. 27-30 A.D.) and before He was lifted up and ascended into “Thin air & yonder into deep space” (Acts 1:9-11, NASB) almost two millennia ago now, Christ Jesus uttered many prophetic pronouncement concerning the Signs occurring just prior to the Powerful & Glorious descend of the “Son of Man” from Up High (Matthew 24:1-51, NASB).

Unlike the first time when the Savior came in flesh-bone-blood as “Sacrificial Lamb of God”, this time He’ll come as The King & Lord of all in POWER & GREAT GLORY (Matthew 24:29-31; Revelation 19:11-21, NASB).

The coming again and return to earth of the Messiah as King & Lord of all, is definitely & certainly a time of refreshing and rejoicing for all His faithful and true adherents who have been earnestly yearning and patiently waiting (Hebrews 9:27-28, NASB) for His coming again to reign on earth:  “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever” (Revelation 11:15; Revelation 20:4-6, NASB).

Heaven bless the REPENTERS and OVERCOMERS in this Christian-dominated archipelago!

Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth Peace among peoples with whom God is pleased!  Amen
